Undoubtedly the most exciting vehicles of the post-war period are the racing sports cars of the model years up to 1965. It was then an era of awakening in racing and motor sport. Shortly after the end of the Second World War, almost all European automobile factories focused on developments in motor sport and their resilience and usability for later series production. Vehicles were demonstrated at international events.
Grand Prix for racing heroes
Heroic stories were written here - whether 1000km races or endurance races on the overall course of the Nürburgring, Mille Miglia, Sebring, Goodwood or in the fifties and sixties the rounds of the "Sports Car World Championship".
At that time, the cars, teams and starting fields were the crown of motor sport, right after Formula 1. Often, the Grand Prix heroes of those days drove Formula 1 as well as the sports cars. Let's remember names like: Graf Berghe von Trips, Hans Herrmann, Jim Clark, Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Mike Hawthorn, Richard von Frankenberg, Joakim Bonnier, Wolfgang Seidel. The list could go on.
Vehicles built up to 1965
They were the real "weekend heroes", who often set off on their own wheels to the competitions at the weekend, with a large sports bag in their luggage, a helmet on the back seat, often small and manageable budgets but huge successes... some of them innovative and better than some of the established factory teams. They all left their mark on that time like no others.
The Nürburgring Classic returns to these heroic images of yesteryear and the vehicles of the Sports Car World Championship at the most historic location: the Nürburgring - the most legendary race track in the world.
With the new race for the title "Le Grand Trophée" at the Nürburgring Classic, all teams and owners of corresponding vehicles built up to 1965 are invited to start.

An exciting competition with fantastic sports cars
There will be Lotus, Mercedes 300SL, Ferrari Testarossa, Jaguar E-Type or C-Type or even Mark II, Austin Healeys, Maseratis 200 S and 300S, Porsche 550 and all Porsche 356 types, as well as Ginettas, Cobras, Triumph, Aston Martin, AC, MG, Morgan and of course Alfa Romeos.
The Nürburgring Classic announces this "Le Grand Trophée - Pre-65" for cars built between 1947 and 1965 together with the "Dunlop Gentle Drivers '65" of the FHR. Click here to go straight to the entry platform.
The track time will include:
- 2 practice runs of 30 minutes each
- 2 race heats a 60 minutes with compulsory pit stop
