Historic F3: Pure Formula racing in the spirit of the 1960s

The Historic F3 1000 cc European Trophy represents an uncompromising, purist approach to historic Formula One racing. Competitions are conducted with vehicles built to an exact replica of their original counterparts, which forgo modern aerodynamics or electronic assistance systems entirely. This results in an authentic driving experience that preserves the technical simplicity and character of Formula One racing from the 1960s.

Purist Formula racing without modern technology

The focus is not only on speed and competition, but also on preserving historical racing technology. Each vehicle is a technical time capsule that aims to authentically bring the era of early Formula 3 racing back to the track.

Community and historical aspiration in the European starting field

A central element of the series is the European community of participants. Drivers from many nations meet at the events, which are characterized by both sporting ambition and a family atmosphere. Alongside competition, originality and historical accuracy play a crucial role.

The series was founded in 2001 to bring the first generation of Formula 3 cars with 1000cc engines back into active racing. These cars date from the years 1964 to 1970 – a time when Formula 3 was considered the most important junior class in international motorsport.

Legendary vehicles and big names in motorsport

Only original or faithfully built Formula 3 racing cars with 1000cc engines are eligible to participate. Typical manufacturers include Brabham, Lotus, Chevron, March and Tecno. Due to their high-revving engines, the vehicles are often referred to as „Screamers“ and still characterize the distinctive sound of this era.

The series also combines historical technology with the names of the motorsport world. Many later Formula 1 stars such as Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt and Ronnie Peterson began their careers in exactly these vehicles. With this, the Historic F3 1000 cc European Trophy offers not only racing, but also a living piece of motorsport history.
