For over twenty years, the Historic Championship '81 has been synonymous with challenging historic motorsport. With around 100 registered drivers, it is the largest historic endurance series in the world. Vehicles from the 1960s to the mid-1970s compete in thrilling duels in high-performance classes - a fascinating spectacle for spectators and a motorsport challenge at the highest level for teams and drivers.

Racing variety with a historic heartbeat

The focus is on GTs, touring cars, racing sports cars and Group A vehicles, which are maintained and put on the track with great passion. The technical and visual diversity of the participating vehicles gives the series its special fascination. Each race is a rolling museum at high speed - authentic, loud and thrilling.

A motorsport rich in tradition lives on

Endurance races have a deep-rooted tradition in Germany that dates back to 1904. Back then, history was made in Bad Homburg with the Gordon Bennett race. Over the decades, motorsport shifted from public roads to permanent race tracks such as the Nürburgring or the Hockenheimring. Endurance competitions over several hundred kilometres or even 72 hours quickly found their fans and became a test bed for man and machine.

Driving skills meet endurance

The race is run in accordance with the international FIA regulations "Appendix K" for historic vehicles built up to 1975. The 2025 season requires the teams to complete around 18 hours of total race time. Teamwork is required here - drivers, mechanics and strategists must harmonise perfectly. Only with excellent preparation, technical reliability and a little bit of luck is it possible to reach the podium.

Highlight in the dark - the night race

A very special highlight of the season is the legendary night race as part of the Nürburgring Classic. When the sun goes down on Saturday evening and the spotlights dance across the tarmac, a unique atmosphere is created. The favourites already emerge in the qualifying sessions on Friday evening and Saturday morning and provide a foretaste of the big race at night.

The Historic Championship '81 is an integral part of the German Historic Automobile Championship (DHAM) and offers participants and fans alike an unrivalled combination of authenticity, sporting competition and passion for historic motorsport.
